History

Chinchilla Student Accommodation Services Inc. (the Committee) was established in 1993 after a ‘Future Search’ project, held in Chinchilla in 1992, determined the need for student accommodation in the town. Land at 23 Leichhardt Street, Chinchilla was donated to the Committee and Federal funding was obtained to build Leichhardt House Student Hostel (the Hostel), completed in January 1994. The original building (now our Girl’s house), had the scope to accommodate up to 16 students and in term one 1994 we welcomed the Hostel’s first seven boarders.

Throughout the next decade, the Committee worked tirelessly to raise further funds that enabled the construction of a sizeable building extension (now our boy’s house) that raised the Hostel capacity to 36 boarders, in 2003. Supplementary grant applications have aided the purchase of further land and the construction of a recreation room, common room, double garage and BBQ and shade areas.
