RESPIRATORY ILLNESSES, COVID, FLU, COUGHS, COLDS, RUNNY NOSES AND SORE THROATS

If you have a cold or any respiratory symptoms, such as a cough, runny nose or sore throat, PLEASE notify us when you are making an appointment.

We need to know this information BEFORE YOU COME so that we can use measures to minimise the risk of infection being transmitted to high risk patients who may be in the building when you attend. Generally patients with respiratory symptoms will be assessed by an initial telehealth consultation. The majority of respiratory presentations can be sorted out over the phone consultation, which removes the risk of transmission of infections to other vulnerable patients within the practice. If a patient with respiratory symptoms needs to be assessed in person we also have an outdoor private area at the rear of the building for this purpose.

Other after hours services that are available are the House Call Doctor (phone 135566) and Dial a Home Doctor (phone 139999).

If the matter is extremely urgent call the ambulance (000) or go to the Accident and Emergency Department at Toowoomba Base Hospital or St Vincent's Emergency Centre.

All needles, syringes, suture materials and dressing packs used in the surgery are single use items that are discarded after use. Instruments used for suturing wounds and surgical excisions are sterilised by autoclave.  Any other equipment used in patient care is sterilised by autoclave where necessary.

If you believe you may have a contagious condition such as the 'flu, chicken pox, measles or a feverish illness, please notify our staff prior to your appointment.   Information regarding our Covid arrangements can be found in the boxed areas at the top of the website.

Home Visits

Home Visits

Generally speaking, it is far better to see patients at the surgery where we have all of our facilities available.  However, we are happy to do house calls should they be necessary, at the doctor's discretion.

We also visit nursing homes and hostels, and look after private patients in St Vincent's Hospital.

Suggestions and Complaints

Suggestions and Complaints

If you wish to make any suggestions or complaints regarding any aspect of our practice or after hours arrangements, please feel free to either discuss these with the doctor at the time of a consultation or to write to us, addressing your letter to the relevant doctor.  We believe that problems are best dealt with within the practice.  However, should you wish to take up a problem with an outside body, you may prefer to contact the Office of the Health Ombudsman.  Their contact number is 133646.

A suggestions box is also available in the waiting room.

Results

Test Result Follow Up

It is very important that you let us know if your contact details change, such as a change of address or phone numbers, so that we are able to contact you if we receive a result that requires urgent attention.

When we order a test we will normally advise you about what follow up is needed for the results, such as coming back for a further visit or just ringing for the result.  If you have a test performed and do not hear the result from us within 7 days, please contact us by phone.   Please do not assume that the result is normal if you have not heard anything, as rarely test results can go astray.  If you contact us and for some reason the reuslt has not come back to us, we can chase it up.

Communication

Communication

Currently our practice does not offer an email consultation service.   Generally if you have a medical problem that needs attention you should make an appointment to see your doctor.  However if you have a simple query please phone our receptionist and if necessary they will put you through to the doctor (or the doctor will return your call) if a consultation is not needed.

Prescriptions

Prescriptions

We may write repeat prescriptions at our discretion without seeing the patient, provided that their medical condition has been reviewed recently.  If requesting a repeat prescription, please advise us if there has been any change in your condition or any change in your medication of which we are unaware.  A fee of $10 is charged for prescriptions written without seeing a doctor.

Please allow us 48 hours notice for repeat prescriptions so that we can avoid interrupting consultations to write prescriptions.

Reminder Systems and Recalls

Reminder Systems

Our practice encourages patients to take part in Cervical Cancer and Breast Screen Queensland reminder systems.  If you do not wish to receive reminders from these services please let our receptionist know.

Practice Holidays

Practice Holiday Arrangements

The practice is covered by other doctors in house or by the Toowoomba Solo GP group whenever the doctors take holidays.  If you ring the practice when the doctors are away the receptionist will arrange for you to see another GP if necessary.  We do suggest that you always ring well ahead of time for repeat prescriptions

Practice Information Sheet

A downloadable copy of our Practice Information Sheet is available here.

Appointments

BEFORE BOOKING, PLEASE READ THE IMPORTANT INFORMATION NEAR THE TOP OF OUR WEBPAGE ABOUT RESPIRATORY SYMPTOMS.

New Patients Please Note

Currently due to high practice workloads we are not able to take bookings for new patients.    We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.    We sometimes have to limit new patients so that we can continue to provide timely appointments to our existing patients.

Please note that doctors of this practice do not prescribe narcotics to new patients.

To arrange an appointment, please either book an appointment online by clicking on the 'Book Online' icon above (and at the top of the web page), or else phone our reception staff on 07 46353788.

Appointments are normally made at 15 minute intervals, which means that you can usually expect to spend 10 to 15 minutes with your doctor. This may vary if the surgery is very busy.

To help us to keep waiting times to a minimum, please:

* If you think that you will need to spend a longer time than 15 minutes with your doctor, please let the receptionist know so that we can book a longer appointment if needed.

* Please make a separate appointment for each family member needing to be seen, and

* Patients will generally not be seen without an appointment unless we have time or the matter is urgent.

Practice Fees

This practice does not generally Bulk Bill.   An out-of-pocket fee applies to our services.

Generally the gap between our fee and the amount that you can get back from medicare is around $46 for a regular consultation.

We have EFTPOS and Credit Card facilities available.   Accounts can also be paid by electronic funds transfer.

Pensioners and Health Care Card Holders

We offer a discounted fee for pensioners and health care card holders.
